Gardening Magazine Spots
A series of spots for a fictional Gardening magazine, with an article about the benefits of adding more green into your daily life.
After reading the article I ran with the idea of keeping nature in unexpected places. Some of the illustrations focus on more realistic ways of plant keeping, like a garden on your balcony or wall planters. Others are a bit more whymsical having plants grow out of your shoes or keeping a garden in your drawer. I decided to greatly increase the size of the flowers, one so they could be recognizable and two because the images felt far too busy drawing the plants at regular size. It was a challenge to make the line art drawings still feel detailed without using colour and value, but I think I managed to find a good medium.
The Brief
Create five spot illustrations to be used through the article. They should show people adding or interacting with plant life, showing how you can bring plants into your every day life. The spots are to be black and white, no shading.
