The metaphor of workload and the pressure to hustle being like a monster that can overwhelm you was used quite a bit in the article. This ended up being the main inspiration for the illustration. I wanted to create a literal monster out of the work. I decided to use paperwork as I think it’s a pretty universal representation of work. When thinking of paper, I thought it would be interesting to turn the documents into an origami monster. While the monster towers over the individual, the individual is relaxed. A leash in their hand, going to a collar around the monster’s neck. Symbolizing they are really the ones in control.
