Holi Book Spread

A page spread about the Indian holiday Holi. The holiday celebrates new beginnings, love and family. The most famous part of the festival is when people throw colourful pigments and water at each other, dancing and singing in the streets.

I started by creating a mood board exploring different aspects of the festival. The image needed to be eye-catching so getting the vibrancy right was important. India has some beautiful architecture and I thought it would be fun to incorporate it into the final design. For the people, I wanted to represent a more modern India with a mix of traditional and more Westernized clothing. They also needed to feel alive and excited. Festivals are full of life and I wanted to convey that to bring the viewer in. I didn’t want to lose the intricacy of the line work in the pigment clouds so I decided to play a bit with the line art colour so none of the details were lost.

Design a spread showing the celebration of Holi. Should be colourful as colour is a major part of the holiday. This is for the Indian version of Holi and thus the image should feel as though it takes place there. The goal is to excite people from other culture about the celebration.
