The Women of Greek Myths

A mock brief using an article from the New York Times Book Review called The Women of Greek Myth are Finally Talking Back. Talking about the emergence of novels that focus on myths being told from a female perspective.

The image shows the reshaping of history, in the form of sculpture, to represent a more feminine viewpoint.

When I was sketching for this project, I tried to think of different ways we see myths in our modern day. Books were the obvious choice, but then, looking from an artistic perspective, the first thing that came to mind was Greek sculpture. I liked the idea of women telling their own stories, carving out their own statues. So I played around with the composition and picked three famous women from Greek mythology to be the statues. Medusa is obviously in the centre with Circe on the right with her lion, and Medea on the left wearing the golden fleece around her waist.
